Photo Walks Starting March 2020

I think this is very exciting news!  We’ll be starting photo walks in Florida next month.  Then we’ll have them at various places all around Florida on the first Saturday of every month.  Everybody is welcome to join us, and there’s no cost to do so.  It’s all just a great way to get like-minded people out on the trails with their cameras.

Our first walk will take place at Ochlockonee River State Park in Sopchoppy.  Check out the event here: https://www.facebook.com/events/1073627799640563/

If you can’t make this one way up in the panhandle, don’t worry because we’ll surely have one near you at some point!  If you have any suggestions, I’d love to hear them.  Just add them to the comments below!

Hope to see you next month!

June 2019 Photo Challenges

I can’t believe our first month is coming to a close!  It was a lot of fun seeing everybody’s challenge entries!  I hope you all enjoy June’s challenges.  Share your photos on Instagram using our hashtag #framingnaturedaily.  I’ll choose a photo to feature every day from the previous day’s challenge.  Have fun and good luck!

May 2019 Daily Photo Challenge

Here’s our first list of daily challenges!  Feel free to start collecting photos for posting next month when the challenge starts.  I won’t usually post the challenge this far ahead of time, but I wanted to get started, so here we are.

I’ll be posting challenge photos on Instagram around 3pm the day after they’re due to give people time to get each day’s photo posted.  Don’t forget to include a tag for the challenge you’re submitting.  For example, on May 1st, you would post a photo of a tree with the hashtags #framingnaturedaily and #trees (and of course whatever other tags you’d like).  Then I’ll choose one tree entry to be posted on May 2nd.  Let me know if any of that is unclear. 🙂

Happy shooting!

May 2019 Photo Challanges

How do the daily challenges work?

I’ll post a complete list of all of the daily challenges for the month about a week before each month begins.  The challenge will consist of words or phrases for each day of the month.  These will range from concrete things (bird, tree, etc.) to more abstract ideas (happy, melancholy, etc.) that are open to interpretation, to various photographic techniques (bokeh, shallow DOF).  You’re welcome to do some or all of the challenges for the month.  When you’re out and about with your camera, keep the list with you and be on the lookout for the challenge topics.  I know it’s not always easy to get out and shoot every day.  I like to collect a lot of challenge photos when I’m out on a photo walk and then post them on the day they’re due.

To participate in the challenge, just post your photo on Instagram on the day it’s due and include the hashtag #framingnaturedaily.  I’ll share challenge photos on the group’s Instagram the day after they’re due to give people time to get them posted.

Let me know if you have any questions or suggestions and have fun with the challenges!

Framing Nature

After allowing the photo club to sit idle for a year, I decided it’s time for a change and some new life.  I’ve changed the name of the club from Optical D’Illusions to Framing Nature Club to better reflect our purpose.  Here’s my vision for the group:

Monthly meetups on the second Saturday of each month all around Florida, not just locally.  This will give everybody a chance to meet new people and experience more of our beautiful state that we might otherwise have missed out on.  After the photo walks, we’ll find a place to go eat and chat.

Lots of entries from our members in the Florida Camera Club Council’s six photo contests throughout the year.  Membership is free and the cost to enter photos is minimal.

Gain a good following of participants on Instagram who enjoy our daily photo challenges.  I’ll post a list of the challenges just before the beginning of each month.  Until we get enough people sharing the daily photos with the hashtag #framingnaturedaily, I’ll share my own daily photos.  Ultimately I hope to only share entries from people who are using the hashtag so people don’t only have to see my photos.

That’s pretty much it.  It’s always fun to get together with others who love nature and photography.  Nature’s Pixels is going to be a fun way to make that happen!

To join the group, go here: https://framingnaturephotoclub.com/membership/  and fill out the form.  Then head over to http://f3c.org/membership/join/ and sign up under our photo club, Nature’s Pixels Photo Club.

I look forward to seeing the club grow and meeting some new nature photographers!  Please tell your friends and help us get some new members!
